Robert Mapes is Principle Member Technical Staff, AT&T Access Architecture and Design, where he designs network components and architecture in support of AT&T’s GigaPower FTTx based Wireline Access evolution, and he also helps develop Optical Access Networking/Next Generation PON Standards as a member of FSAN and a delegate to ITU-T SG15/Q2. After obtaining electrical engineering and M.B.A. degrees, his career has spanned over 25 years in the telecommunications field that began in the Bell System. Upon Divestiture of the Bell System he moved to the vendor sector where he has held xPON Product Line Management positions for a variety of North American and International telecommunication equipment suppliers such as Tellabs, Ericsson, and Siemens. Most recently, before rejoining AT&T he served as Director of Marketing for Intel/Lantiq Semiconductors in Munich, Germany, where he launched the Falcon™ GPON SoC for SFP based ONTs.
